Please excuse my Disney bias but I think November 18th should be a National Holiday! There has been no greater ambassador for our nation and world then Mickey Mouse. Although Mickey had appeared twice on screen before this date, November 18th was the first appearance of Mickey Mouse in a cartoon with sound, Steamboat Willie. Today marks the 79th Anniversary of that momentous point of history. Although there had been cartoons with sound before this one, Steamboat Willie has undoubtedly left the most impact.
Minnie Mouse also makes her first appearance with sound here. The Walt Disney Company marks this date as their official Birthdays. Although slightly incorrect I do so as well, as not to confuse anyone. So Happy Birthday to the world's most loved and favorite Mice! Thanks for all the good times, happiness, and Joy you have brought me and countless people around the Globe. You don't look a day over 29! Here's to 79 more wonderful years of making people happy!
I hope that we never forget that it all started with a Mouse! - Walt Disney
