It is now official! The Republican ticket is now McCain/Palin. Sarah Palin is the ultra popular, one-term Governor of Alaska. I am very pleased and excited by this pick. While myself and many others pushed for and hoped for Mike Hukcabee to be VP I think this choice may have been McCain's best option. Yes, part of the decision was based on the fact that Palin is a woman but I think it is more complex than that.
Through the Summer the Conservative base has been very lathargic and tepid in ther excitement. I could see it through the media and I got to see it first hand when I attended a Walton County (GA) GOP BBQ on Memorial Day Weekend. Almost instantly the base has been charged and jacked up. I have received multiple press releases (too many to share here) from Conservatives and Conservative groups and the excitement could not be any higher about this pick. There is also a surprise factor here. This was not expected at all. Palin was not really in the discussion at all. She was almost completely off the radar screen. My jaw literally hit the floor as I heard the possible news on TV this morning!
Maybe the most shocked and pleasantly surprised are Huckabee supporters. After a sleepless night of dispair we have awoken to joy and ecstacy over McCain's choice. While a Romney or Huckabee choice might have benn a good one choosing one of them over the other would have continued the schism (and maybe exacerbated the situation). It is very clear that all sides are now untied together to support the ticket. That was not case in the Democratic Party afterr Obama's pick of Joe Biden.
From our prespective we see Sarah Palin as one of us. She is a member of the new breed of Republicans trying to take the party back from corrupt country-club conyism and handing it back to the people (as Reagan did). Palin has fought corruption tooth and nail. She has fought pork and tax increases in a big way in Alaska (against her own party). She is also 100% Pro-Life and a proponent of off-shore drilling and fighting for our energy independence by any means necessary.
While it might not be Huck, McCain has made an awesome choice! I therefore endorse the ticket with my whole heart! John & Sarah - This member of Huck's Army is reporting for duty!

Sarah Palin - What A Great Choice!
VEEPSTAKES - John McCain Chooses Governor Sarah Palin!!
There was a reason I did not comment further on the previous post last night with the news that Governor Mike Huckabee was not McCain's choice. First of all I was not in an emotionally stable mindset to post something that made sense logically. Another reason is I wanted to wait to hear who the actual choice would be. Numerous sources now claim that Senator John McCain has chosen Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin as his running mate. It is very ironic. About a year ago in a blog roundup I shared a link to a blog that campaigned for Palin to be the VP choice of whomever won the GOP's nomination.
I am extremely pleased. I really like her a lot. McCain has made a fantastic choice! More on this later...after I return from lunch.

Mike Huckabee: "It's Not Me."
It has been a very emotionally taxing day as the Veepstakes is down to the wire. Emotions have risen and fallen with every rumor and story through the media. There was finally hope this evening when it was announced that McCain's short list was all headed to Dayton, OH for the rally tomorrow that will unviel the ticket. According to those reports, Governor Mike Huckabee was to be headed to Dayton with that group of people.
That news came a few hours ago but the record has been set straight. Governor Mike Huckabee had this to say on his blog just minutes ago:
Dear HuckPAC family:
You guys have been incredible in your faithful support, prayers, and efforts throughout the campaign and beyond it. Janet and I feel like the most blessed people on earth to have been able to be part of the growing community of people across America who believe in vertical politics. I know that many of you have hoped and prayed that I would be selected as John McCain’s running mate. I am certainly moved by your support and confidence, but instead of you hearing a bunch of total nonsense from the media, I want to share exclusively with you what is up.
There are reports that I’m on my way to Dayton tonight. Not true. Wasn’t invited to be there and any reports that I’m going to be there are a big surprise to me. I have never been contacted by the McCain campaign at any point about the VP slot. I have never been asked for any information, background, etc., so as I have said repeatedly in interviews, I didn’t consider myself to be under any consideration. I think people thought I was being coy and just not talking, but I have built my political life on trying to shoot straight and tell it as it is and as I see it. I have been honest in telling you that I had no reason to believe I was ever seriously considered or “vetted” for the ticket. That’s why I have continued with HuckPAC because I have felt that we (me and you) shouldn’t give up, but rather gear up and help good pro-life, conservative people to office across the notion
Our efforts are just getting started. Like you, I will await news of who Senator McCain selects. I hope it will be a person with a solid record and solid convictions on the foundation issues that bring many of us to the process. I’m taking this unusual step to communicate so it will come from me and not from some of the ridiculous things being said on TV and websites tonight.

It is very dissapointing and distressing to read that but I'd rather hear the bad news given by the man himself instead of waiting with unrealistic hopes to be dashed tomorrow morning. I am very disgusted and angered by the fact that Mike was never vetted, called, or considered. However I will leave those thoughts for another time.

A Democrat's Worst Nightmare - McCain Naming Huckabee His Running Mate
The following was written by one of my fellow Huck's Army soldiers and bloggers, TheValuesVoter. I don't think I could write something better that explains why McCain selecting Huckabee would be the Democrats worst nightmare Well done! I just pray to God that John McCain realizes the same logic that we do. Otherwise he is doomed.
It was reported last year that the Republican candidate who most worried the Democrats was Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. The Democratic Strategists must be relieved that his name hasn't been mentioned on McCain's short lists. But let's take a look at the type of thing that the Democratic consultants are probably very afraid of.

Dear Diary,
I just woke up from the scariest dream ...
When I went to bed last night, I was in a great mood. Our conference was awesome and the party was starting to come together. Barack gave an incredible speech. And the polls showed we were getting a good bump out of the convention.
And then I went back to the hotel and fell asleep. And I dreamed that I was watching television and watching McCain announce his running mate. We had been preparing for Romney (we put together the coolest ad). But we also were ready for the other members of the short list. For each of those people, we had talking points about why they were horrible picks and would continue the Bush tradition. I dreamed I was staring straight at the screen when they unveiled McCain's Veep.
And then I saw MIKE HUCKABEE with John McCain. Aw, shucks. The guy we weren't expecting. And I screamed for a minute like I was Howard Dean. I was really scared.
But then I thought to myself - "yes we can." We can deal with this. And so I went to the office to prepare some talking points on Huckabee. But that was even scarier.
I searched through all of Huckabee's comments to find something bad he said about McCain so that we could put out our own ad just like the Republicans did to us last week. But I came up empty. He never said anything bad about McCain.
Then we tried to connect him to the Bush Administration so that we could show why he'd be part of a second Bush term. But that was even more frustrating. He ran a state and didn't have anything to do with Iraq, the deficit, the national debt, or our image abroad. We looked around for how much he voted with Bush. But because he was the only person running who wasn't in the Senate, he didn't even have the opportunity to vote with or against Bush. Arrggh.
We tried to make some arguments about how McCain/Huckabee would not help Americans with health care. But even that didn't work. Huckabee created a program that offered health insurance to poor children. He cut the number of uninsured Arkansans so that it was a quarter less than the national average. He even lost a hundred pounds and saved money on drugs himself because he didn't need diabetes medication anymore. This dream kept getting worse by the minute.
We were going to make an ad to attack all Republicans because of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. But even that didn't work because Huckabee took money out of his own state's treasury to help house the evacuees from neighboring Louisiana. He even gave free dialysis machines to the evacuees who were sick.
We tried to point out how the Republicans haven't reached out to black voters. But we couldn't even do that because Huckabee got half the black vote in Arkansas, even with Bill and Hillary Clinton helping his opponent. And then a bunch of black Pastors and church groups got together and (tremble) said they were going to vote for him.
Since Joe Biden has been in politics for so long, we wanted to compare our Veep against their Veep and show how much experience our guy has. But then someone pointed out that Huckabee was the only person who had actually run a government and has a longer tenure than any governor of either party. We were hoping Biden would be able to beat the Pub's Veep in a debate. But Huck won the debates easily. He even told funnier jokes.
We tried to talk about all the personal scandals that Republicans have been involved in over the past couple of years. But when we tried to pull up dirt on Huckabee, we came up ... empty. EMPTY!? He's been married to the same woman for 34 years, his kids love him and he's stayed out of trouble.
Our last hope was that those talk show radio hosts would help us out, the way they did during the primaries. But it turned out that even though their guy didn't get picked, they still disliked our nominee so much that they started being fair to Huckabee.
And because McCain and Huckabee seemed to have so much fun campaigning together, McCain started looking happier and more relaxed on the stump.
I started to cry. I knew we were probably going to lose the election. And then I woke up.
Gosh! I'm still shaking. I'm just glad they haven't realized that they've been ignoring the best candidate. That was TOO close. I'm just glad it was just a dream.

RNC Releases "Full Program" (Or Is It?)
The RNC has released what they are calling their "Full Convention Program" this afternoon. The release follows and then I have some thoughts and questions about it:

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The 2008 Republican National Convention today announced the names of additional speakers for the program of events that will run Sept. 1-4. The convention’s overall theme, "Country First," reflects John McCain’s remarkable record of leadership and service to America. Each day of proceedings will center on a touchstone theme that has defined John McCain’s life and will be central to his vision for leading our nation forward as president.
"The 2008 Convention program will bring together Americans who will speak to John McCain's vision for reforming our government, building prosperity and ensuring peace for future generations. Very interesting. Just as the original list brought forth more questions than answers so does this so-called "Full Program list."
1. Does the RNC have any clue as to who McCain's Veep Choice will be? It doesn't look like it. Nearly all of the possibilities are scheduled at some point during the week (and those who are not are very unlikely choices).
2. Again the next question is, Where's Newt Gingrich? Is he waiting in the wings to fill in for one of the speakers that gets the VP slot? He would fit quite nicely in the "Reform" theme for Tuesday night. Or is my first choice for President (late spring of 2007) possibly a surprise VP pick? I'd sign on that ticket in a heartbeat! What a shot in the arm that would be! Picking Newt might have an even more positive impact on the Conservative base than choosing Mike Huckabee (because of the shock factor alone)!
3. While this question is not brought forth by the schedule it has to deal with a subplot. The sub plot has a name. No, it's not Ron Paul. His name is Gustav, Hurricane Gustav to be more precise. the forecast track is taking it into the Gulf as a Major Hurricane. that will occur just as the Convention is ramping up. Will Charlie Crist and Bobby Jindal have to go home to serve their respective states of Florida and Louisiana? What effect will that have on all this?

LETS GET JACK HOOGENDYK ELECTED TO US SENATE!!!
Dear friends:
I am a candidate for the United States Senate in the great state of Michigan. I am running against a firmly entrenched liberal by the name of Carl Levin. He has been in office for thirty years. Voters have never had a clearer choice than they do this year.
Senator Levin and I could not be more different. While his legacy is one of ever increasing the tax burden on families and businesses, supporting a woman’s “right to choose” abortion, even partial birth abortion, and refusing to open domestic oil supplies. He has been soft on the sanctity of marriage and unreliable on the issue of border security.
I have a six-year record fighting higher taxes and spending. I have never voted for a tax increase and voted against last year’s $1.4 billion spending increase. As the former executive director of a crisis pregnancy center, I certainly understand and have actively defended the constitutional right to life of all persons, from conception to natural death. I fought for the successful passage of the Marriage Amendment in Michigan. I have pledged to take a strong stand in defense of our borders as a Senator from Michigan. I was honored to receive the endorsement of Mike Huckabee a couple of weeks ago.
Carl Levin is one of the most liberal senators in Washington. He has been a leader in working against the conservative ideals of senators like Tom Coburn from Oklahoma and Jim DeMint from South Carolina. These men have been champions for the issues you and I hold dear, but they need help. As the coalition of conservative leaders in the Senate grows, we will begin to positively affect policy for ALL Americans.
I am the decided underdog, but I am with you on the issues that matter. After fighting for six years in the Michigan Legislature for less government, personal responsibility, and core family values, I am ready to take those principles to Washington. The Most Profound Statement On Life I Have Ever Read
The following statement was posted by Governor Mike Huckabee this afternoon. It is the most profound statement I have ever read, and the strongest Pro-Life statement Mike Huckabee has ever made (to my knowledge at least):
Dear Team:
The Democrats are beginning to arrive in Denver for the coronation, er uh, NOMINATION, of Barak Obama. In the past few weeks, some of the shine and glitter has begun to disappear as he stumbled badly trying to escape his own record on fundamental issues like the sanctity of life. His non-answer to Rick Warren in the Saddleback Forum was more revealing for what he didn’t say than what he said. He did what many far left liberals do when it comes time to discuss the life issue—he changed the topic. He said that answers to such questions either scientifically or theologically were “above his pay grade.”
Mr. Obama, most people earning far below YOUR pay grade know enough science to realize that when 23 chromosomes from a female and 23 from a male unite in the moment of conception, a life containing 46 unique chromosomes is created. For all the talk from liberals as to how they follow science and therefore end up with their positions on global warming and evolution, they seem to claim utter ignorance of one of science’s irrefutable facts---what kind of life is created at conception.
Here’s the clear “science:”
When the male sperm and female egg join, a new and unique life form is created. At conception. Not at birth or viability, or when a lawyer says so. At conception this happens. John McCain got it right; Obama pled less scientific knowledge than a 5th grader.
This life is either human or something else. Science irrefutably would declare that the life which is starting from that moment is human. It’s not a stalk of broccoli, it’s not a parrot, squirrel, or dolphin. It will never become a tree—it can only become a human. It has the entire DNA schedule that it will have for the rest of its life right then. In days it will begin to take on increasingly observable human characteristics and form, but at conception, it is biologically human.
If this life is human, then the only issue left is whether this human life falls under the notion that it has a fundamental right of existence or not. If not, it is because we as a culture have decided that some human lives are simply not worth living. If we can decide that about an innocent and unborn baby, we can also decide it on the basis of less absolute criteria than that. If we make that choice (and this is all about “CHOICE,” isn’t it?) then someone may decide that a terminally ill person is not a life worth living. Maybe a severely disabled child is a life not worth living; what about a person with a limited IQ? Say that’s absurd—that an educated and enlightened society would never be so audacious as to begin to terminate life based on such arbitrary excuses? Maybe you haven’t studied Nazi Germany, in which the murder of six million Jews was justified because of their religion and millions of others were murdered because of their politics. Germany was not a primitive, superstitious culture. It was one filled with the intelligentsia and enlightened.
This is an important issue. It’s why we can’t trust Obama with America’s future because he’s not even sure which Americans are worth saving and which ones aren’t. And it’s why that for many of us, McCain’s selection of a running mate really does matter. Because John McCain clearly is pro life, I will support and vote for him because Obama is not an option for me as a pro life person. I will be disappointed if McCain doesn’t pick a true pro life person and realize that should that happen, he will lose many of the very people who supported me. I cannot expect all of you to vote for McCain if he chooses someone whose record isn’t pro life. It will be a less than perfect decision for all of us---our only real choices are McCain and Obama; one will protect life and one won’t. Some will argue for a 3rd party candidate and I respect that, but in political realities, that is essentially a vote for Obama and I can’t go there.
I want lower taxes, less government, more local control, less spending, greater accountability for tax dollars, a strong national defense, and less government regulation. But above all, I want a government who respects life—mine, yours, and that of people I don’t know and even those I don’t like. A government that decides that an unborn baby isn’t worth anything may one day decide that about me. Or you.
This election shouldn't be about taxes. It ought to be about life.

When I first read this statement I was moved to tears and I still am no matter how many times I read it. I was born severely disabled. Other cultures and sadly other people would have left me to die (or worse) killed me off because of the dissibilities I was born with, the challenges I would face, and the long odds I had. They would have done so without giving me a choice. the disabled were among the millions ruthlessly murdered during The Holocaust. Haven't we learned our lesson from this dispicable moment in the history of humanity? Human life should be chereished from conception until death.
VEEPSTAKES - Obama Taps Joe Biden
The news of Barak Obama's chosen running mate broke last night/this morning right after the Midnight hour He has tapped longtime Deleware senator, Joe Biden.
This is a very interesting choice. While Biden definitely gives Obama a Veep with foreign policy experience (recently evident with his visit to the front lines of the Russia-Georgia conflict) it does not seem to me to fit with what Obama wants to do. Barack Obama has run a campaign based on political change. It seems almost hypocritical to choose a running mate who is a long term (much longer than McCain) Washington "Politics-as-usual" politician as his running mate. If Obama wanted foreign policy experience and an agent of change he could have chosen New Mexico Governor, Bill Richardson and acomplished that goal.
Very interesting. We'll see how this works out for hin in the end.

RNC Releases A List Of Speakers For The Convnetion
The RNC Convnention has released a tentative list of speakers. This is not the final or complete list.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The 2008 Republican National Convention today announced the themes and preliminary lineup of speakers for the program of events that will run Sept. 1-4. This is very interesting. Pretty much every plausable running mate is listed here. Can we safely assume there will be changes and alterations to this list when the final schedule is released? So far Mike Huckabee is scheduled to speak at Day Two. I guess that is better to not even let him speak at all. It leaves me wanting much more though.

Suddenly The Veepstakes Gets Hot!
After months and months of punditry the Veepstakes is finaly coming to a head.
First of all Barack Obama will possibly name his running mate tomorrow morning according to a The Drudge Report. The rollout is expected to start with an official E-mail to supporters.
Meanwhile Politico is reporting that McCain is planning to announce his running mate at a rally in Ohio, at Wright State University In Dayton) on Friday, August 29th, with another event following in PA perhaps.
Very interesting. Let the guessing game run wild folks!

Gayle Harrel Wins HuckPAC Endorsement!
Last week I posted about a poll that was ongoing over at HuckPAC, in order to decide which candidate they would endorse in the Congressional race in Florida's 16th Congressional District. After a wekend of voting (in which over three thosand people participated), State Representative, Gayle Harrel has won the endorsement from HuckPAC. I am v3ery pleased! All three candidates looked very good but there was only one that was fit for the endorsement. Out of the three, she was the most like Huckabee and even talked about the FairTax on one of her issue pages! I am glad that Harrel won the day. Way to go everyone! We've made an awesome choice!
Mike Huckabee: "Shalom For Israel!"
The following was posted to Mike Huckabee's blog this afternoon. Mike is now traveling through Israel:
I arrived in Israel at 8am on Monday morning after an all night flight from New York. I’d spoken at the Christian Coalition in Orlando, FL on Saturday night and earlier that day, participated in the “Call,” a gathering of 50,000 believers on the Capitol Mall in Washington, D. C. It’s been a busy weekend, mostly on airlines and getting through airports.
It’s my 10th time to Israel. I never grow tired of coming here. I’ve been visiting Jewish families who have chosen to live here and raise their families here as well as meeting with some of the leading government officials. I got here only to find out that the New York Post has a story saying that I said it’s safer to be in Israel than American cities. Sometimes, it gets very frustrating to deal with the press. I don’t think they always try to get things wrong, but boy, do they!
I didn’t say I felt safer in Israel than the USA, but that I don’t feel afraid in Israel, and that in SOME AMERICAN cities, I don’t always feel safe. I pointed out that every city has dangers and risks and I don’t think of Israel as any more dangerous than most American cities. Now, that paper makes it sound like I’m saying America is not safe.
Last week, there were reports that portrayed me as saying that conservative voters would be okay with Mitt Romney on the ticket with John McCain. I didn’t say that. I specifically said these things:
1. That I committed to support the ticket and would do so.
2. That many conservatives would have a problem with Romney and that it had NOTHING to do with his faith, but his inconsistent views. I said that I personally would still vote for McCain if he picked Romney, but thought there were many who wouldn’t, including many people who supported me. I further said I hoped he didn’t pick someone to be his VP who wasn’t. pro-life.
3. I didn’t bring these issues up, but tried to respond honestly to questions.
HuckPAC Team, don’t believe everything you read. (Except the good stuff!)

Michigan Supporters tell McCain Camp

Michigan supporters of former Gov. Mike Huckabee's presidential candidacy Monday said they have delivered a statement to Sen. John McCain's campaign urging McCain to select Huckabee as his vice presidential running mate.
The Huckabee supporters and other social conservatives in Michigan and nationally last week were shocked by the McCain camp's serious discussion of selecting a running mate who favors legal abortion on demand.
The statement -- delivered by e-mail and fax Monday to McCain's Michigan and national campaign headquarters -- reads as follows:
1. It is our belief that a large number of Christians do not currently plan to vote for Senator McCain because of his past positions and statements on issues of concern to Christian voters. This includes many voters who were not previously involved politically but were activated to support a Republican presidential campaign by former Gov. Mike Huckabee.
* A poll published earlier this year by the Christian Post found that Sen. Barack Obama and even Sen. Hillary Clinton outpolled McCain among Christian conservatives. (Notably, former Gov. Mike Huckabee was by far the most popular candidate among those polled.)

* Newsweek reported Friday that "a new poll from the Barna Group, a Christian research firm, shows Obama leadingMcCain 43 percent to 34 percent among likely Christian voters, with advantages among non-evangelical born again Christians (43% to 31%); notional Christians (44% to 28%)...Catholics (39% vs. 29%); and Protestants (43% to 34%). 2. We strongly believe that if Gov. Huckabee is part of the Republican Party ticket, many, many more of these Christians and Huckabee supporters will not only vote for the McCain ticket but will do something far more important: actively and enthusiastically work for its success.
3. The coalition supporting Gov. Huckabee has only grown in recent months, as evidenced by the Denver Letter to Sen. McCain signed by Christian activist leaders nationally.
4. Of all possible vice presidential candidates who would be acceptable to pro-life, pro-family voters, there is little question that Gov. Huckabee has the highest name identification and recognition nationally. We believe his selection would overnight give the McCain ticket something it currently lacks and most likely cannot win without: a national network of values voters and volunteers passionately committed to the values and message brought forth this past year by Gov. Huckabee.
5. Thus, this statement does not reflect merely our personal preference for the candidate we supported during the primary election contests. It reflects our political judgment that selecting Gov. Mike Huckabee as the vice presidential candidate is the quickest and surest way to exciting, activating, and mobilizing the socially conservative base of the Republican Party nationwide, the very coalition Sen. McCain recently said no Republican could win without. 6. Further, two recent professional public opinion polls validated not only our political judgment but Gov. Huckabee's appeal to all voters, not just social conservatives.
* A Rasmussen poll three weeks ago found that among all general election voters, Gov. Mike Huckabee had the highest favorable ratings among all possible vice presidential candidates included in the survey. (Notably, the same poll found that former Gov. 7. Conversely, it is our judgment that the quickest and surest way Sen. McCain could alienate, demoralize, and deactivate social conservative activists and voters nationwide would be to select a vice presidential candidate who they believe does not share their values and worldview. Those would include former Gov. Mitt Romney, former Gov. Tom Ridge, Gov. Charlie Crist, Sen. Joe Lieberman, and others
8. While other possible vice presidential candidates are believed to share socially conservative values and would thus be philosophically acceptable -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Gov. Bobby Jindal, Rep. Rob Portman, Gov. Mark Sanford, Gov. Sarah Palin, and others -- none of them has national name identification and a national organization of volunteers committed to their support comparable to Gov. Mike Huckabee. For example, the same Zogby poll which found that 27 percent of likely voters would be more likely to vote for McCain with Gov. Huckabee on the ticket, found that putting Gov. Jindal on the ticket would move only 5 percent to be more likely to support McCain, while Pawlenty motivated only 3 percent.
9. In summary, Gov. Mike Huckabee's selection as Sen. McCain's running mate would motivate more American voters to support Sen. McCain's candidacy than any other possible running mate, and it would mobilize a pre-existing grassroots network of social conservative activists and volunteers that no other potential running mate could match, not even those philosophically acceptable to the Republican base.
10. The election of Sen. Barack Obama is unthinkable. Because we want Sen. McCain to succeed, and because we believe his vice presidential selection may be determinative in whether he has the grassroots volunteer support required for a Republican victory, we strongly and respectfully urge Sen. McCain to help us help him -- and make iteasy, not hard, for us to persuade others to support and work for his candidacy -- by selecting former Gov. Mike Huckabee as his vice presidential running mate.

Help Decide Who HuckPAC Endorses Next
Kudos to HuckPAC for another fresh idea! There are three fantastic conservatives running in the primary for the 16th Distirct Congressional Race in Florida: State Rep, Gayle Harell, Palm Beach County GOP Chairmen, Tom Rooney, and Palm Beach City Council member, Hal Valeche.
